The Homestay Programme - Total Immersion!

The IntoFrance Homestay Programme is an individual and personalised holiday in France for young people from 13 to 18. Each participant will be hosted by a French family for a period of two, three or four weeks. This Homestay Programme enables students of the French language to visit France and to share the daily life of a French family.

The participant will be completely integrated into his/her French host family. In a traditional language school programme participants often meet up with students of nationalities other than French and thus are tempted to speak other languages (English for example). This is not the case in our Homestay programme. Our participants will speak French.

From our point of view we believe that a Homestay Programme gives the best results because a language must be experienced – it must be lived. While living on a daily basis with those who speak French one comes to understand the spirit, the motivations, in a word the “way of life”, of which the language is the living expression. In our view the best way to acquire practical experience of French is to spend time within a French family and if possible not to be in contact with other foreign students.

The opportunity to improve one’s French language skills by a total immersion in a French family and the possibility to create long and lasting friendships in France, and to really understand the French way of life.

The IntoFrance Homestay Programme is open to students from 13 to 18. We advise that the participants have studied French for at least 1 or 2 years. The Homestay Programme will suit students who are autonomous and independent and who are genuinely motivated to learn the French language and to discover another culture or way of life.

The French host families

Our French Families are aware of the importance that hosting a young foreign student entails and also of the benefits for their own family. The foreign participant will be welcomed as part of the family. Most of our families have children near the age of the participant. Our families will also have contacts with young French people in the neighbourhood and in their own extended family.

The majority of our Hosting families live in the South West of France (best airport Bordeaux), a region famous for the quality of its gastronomy, its wines, its sunny climate, the beauty of its beaches and its cultural heritage.

Our French Families are motivated by the enriching experience of hosting a young person coming from a different cultural background. These French families are not remunerated.

Hosting a young foreign student in one’s family is a unique and enriching experience. It allows the whole family to get to know another way of life and to widen its horizons. The children in the French family are often motivated to travel and to learn other languages after having hosted a young foreign student. Hosting is another way to create long lasting links with other cultures.

All host families are inspected and carefully selected by a member of the IntoFrance team. We are convinced that the success of our Homestay in France programme is based on the selection of a suitable family for each participant. Therefore we attach the greatest importance to the selection of our host families in France.
